My food philosophy

One of my greatest passions in life, is my love of food. Making sure that my family and I are in good health is another passion. I always try to make conscious choices about where our food comes from and my endless curiosity makes sure I never stop pursuing knowledge about how food works inside our bodies.

For me, good food is natural, free of toxins and unnecessary additives, and as locally, sustainably and environmentally friendly produced as possible.

My philosophy is based on years of experience from trying all sorts of different food diets and I use my knowledge every day to create the best possible diet for myself and my family. Happy, healthy food is often a topic around my dinner table and friends and family often leave with bags full of recipes and new knowledge about how to eat as healthy as possible. There really is a jungle out there of all sorts of different nutritional diets and opinions on what’s healthy and what’s not. Hell, even professors, doctors and scientist can’t agree on the complex matter that food is. No wonder many of us get confused and end up choosing the easiest and cheapest way to feed ourselves. How do we know what to believe? I believe many ways lead to Rome. We have yet to witness one holy grail of a diet that experts agree on being the best there is for us. Trendy diets with low carbs, raw foods and superfoods all have plenty good aspects, but neither are complete. I’ve tried them all, but I couldn’t possibly choose only one as being the one.

I believe that the most important aspeckt about food and nutrition, is to know how to prepare our foods and to respect how the nutritional components respond to that processing.

Did you know that you can turn the healthiest and most glorious ingredient into a real cancer-bomb by heating it up too much or by using the wrong fats?

Gifting your body wholesome, fresh and healthy food is important because your life depends on it.

Foods that our bodies recognize and greet with a smile before breaking them down to free and soak up all that fantastic nutrition and fuel - those are the foods that keep us happy and healthy. (Well, as you know, there are obviously also other factors that influence our health and happiness). A dear friend of mine once called my a food idealist. I laughed at first, but then I thought; You know what, I am! One of the strongest instincts from my food idealism is that my family should only eat vegetarian foods. Indeed, I was a vegetarian for many years, but after having my four kids, I experienced that both me and my children were lacking essential nutrition that would only come from the animal kingdom. Now, I’m the first to say that the way animals are treated by most of the industrial big-buck-corporations just breaks my heart. It’s terrible and disgusting and I would never support it.

I try to think and make choices with my heart. That’s why we in my household only eat animals, birds and fish that have been fed well, that are healthy and that have been treated with respect.

I also have another confession to make. I hava a major hang-up on medical foods, fermented foods and living foods. It really excites me! So much that I had to cry a little bit the day I finally managed to get my kombucha-mother to start growing a beautiful baby. Apart from the fact that I love all things living and I love growing my own food, this hang-up also stems from the fact that my son was born with a serious heart disease. He will never be able to eat his way to becoming healthy, but every bit of food I give him, will definitely improve his, and his sisters’ quality of life. Welcome to my website, I’m so happy you’ve found me here and I hope you’ll find many sources of inspiration. When I first started blogging, I used my blog as a tool for me to organise all my thoughts, creativity, experience and knowledge about food and nutrition. I hope all of the hours spent can benefit others and I’m very happy to share it all with you. Lastly, you should know that I don’t consider myself an expert on nutrition. I have an academic background and the knowledge I have, coupled with the food and recipes in my blog, are a result of how I interpret research and diet trends - also based on my ethical standard of how I believe we should treat all foods. A lot of my inspiration comes from looking at how we prepared foods traditionally back in the day, and I’m a big advocate of the sensibility and knowledge that can be derived from traditional cooking.

I currently have three eBooks out for sale so please feel free to treat yourself to a well of information from my hard earned experience and some kick ass recipes!

Lots of love
Gry
